Moravia 48, Diagonal 39
DIAGONAL — The Diagonal girls battled all game, but came up short against Moravia here Friday night, 48-39.
After the two teams entered the second quarter knotted at 8-8, Moravia went on a 10-0 run to break open a close game. But, Diagonal fought back, eventually cutting the lead to one point in the fourth quarter.
“We just couldn’t get the stop we needed to take the lead,” Diagonal head coach Gina Knox said. “At one point we were down one in the fourth, but again, Moravia would pull away. We needed a better performance defensively as a team. Kaitlyn Klommhaus did a tremendous job guarding their leading scorer and holding her to seven points.”
Cassidy Becker led the Maroonettes with her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Kaitlyn Klommhaus finished with nine points, five rebounds and three steals. Kasydi Klommhaus netted six points.
Allison Norris finished with five points and five rebounds, while Jaci Haidsiak contributed three points and four steals.
Mount Ayr 43
MOUNT AYR — The Mount Ayr girls lost a close game here Friday to Bedford, 49-43.
“It was a pretty good game,” Raiderette head coach Thad Streit said. “We were pretty evenly matched, Bedford just hit a few clutch shots. I was proud of the defensive effort and our offense showed spurts of promise.”
Freshman Kelcie Shields led Mount Ayr with 13 points and 11 rebounds to go with three blocked shots. Megan Warin added eight points with three rebounds and two assists. Ashton Johnson scored six points with three rebounds.
Macy Larsen scored six points with three boards, while Brook Rychnovsky and Tess Shields each scored four points. Rychnovsky finished with three assists and Tess Shields pulled down 11 rebounds. Paige Daughton scored two points with eight rebounds.
Mount Ayr travels to Nodaway Valley tonight.
