Carol Blanken, 89, of Creston died Dec. 17, 2013, at Greater Regional Hospice Home.

A memorial gathering will be 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at Summit House, 509 N. Maple St. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Hinckley, Ill., at a later date. Visitation with family present will be 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Summit House. Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, is in charge of arrangements. Carol Joyce Blanken, daughter of Anna Caroline (Johnson) and Henry Peter Bernhart Meyer, was born May 28, 1924, in Leland, Ill.

Carol graduated from Hinckley High School.

On Feb. 18, 1945, Carol married Orville “Bud” Ernest Blanken in Hinckley, where they lived until moving to Afton in 1995.

Carol was a homemaker, bus driver, and waitress and retired from the Northern Illinois University, where she worked in housekeeping.

Carol was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Hinckley, Ill.

Carol is survived by her daughters, Patricia (husband Alvin) Olson of Gridley, Calif., Cheryl Ann West of Wausau, Wis., Jewel K. (husband Ron) Baseley of Creston and Barbara E. (husband George) Suddeth-Eberle of Sun City West, Ariz.; son Michael G. Blanken (special friend Bonnie Miller) of Sycamore, Ill.; sister Mary Ann (husband Fred) Scheppler of Serena, Ill.; sister-in-law Charlotte Meyer of Rockford, Ill.; 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, husband; sister and brother-in-law, Erna and Robert Bark; brother William Meyer, granddaughter Betsy Olson, great-grandson Konner Klommhaus, son-in-law Warner West; and sisters- and brothers-in-law, Marie and Clifford Factley, Eleanore and “Bus” Genz and Vera and “Ack” Ackerman.
