Lola Sanson — Creston

Lola Sanson, 70, of Creston died Dec. 18, 2013, at her home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. The Rev. Dianna Clark will officiate. Open visitation will be noon to 6 p.m. Sunday with family present 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the family. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Lola Berniece (Cottrell) Sanson, daughter of Lola Berniece (Woods) and Dewey Vinton Cottrell, was born Sept. 22, 1943, in Diagonal.

Lola graduated from Creston High School in 1962.

On Aug. 25, 1961, Lola married Phillip Guy Sanson in Creston at the United Methodist Church.

They lived in Creston most of their married life and lived a few years in Council Bluffs.

Lola was a pharmacy tech for many years, being employed for 30 years in retail at Easters Family Center. She also dispatched and drove for Southern Iowa Trolley and worked for HyVee two years.

Lola was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Creston. She was also involved in bowling leagues over the years.

Lola is survived by her husband Phil Sanson of Creston; daughters, Debra (husband Robert) Gallant of Kansas City, Mo., Shelly Groves (companion Ed Douglas) of Lenox and Brenda (husband Mark) Huff of Creston; son Steve (wife Missy) Sanson of Corning; brothers, Leland (wife Sandy) Cottrell and Charles Cottrell, all of Rockford, Ill.; sisters-in-law, Darlene Cottrell of Creston, Jane Cottrell of Rockford, Ill., and Wilma Cottrell of Des Moines; grandchildren, Heather (Anstey) Randolph, Cody, Courtney and Cassidy Sanson, Jason and Brett Johnson, Sarah Groves and Katie and Darian Huff; and nine great-grandchildren.

Lola was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, Hugh and Elsie Sanson; son-in-law Randy Dale Groves; brothers, Glen, Cecil, Dewey, Raymond and Wayne Cottrell; and brother-in-law Charles Sanson.
