The Creston boys edged Atlantic 35-33 in an overtime thriller Thursday. Evan Jacobson scored 19 points for Creston (4-1).
“Awfully gutsy game by our kids,” Creston coach Mike McCabe said. “They are athletic at every spot. We handled their press and we found a way to score against their 1-3-1 zone. I’m really proud of our guys. It was a big win and the students in the crowd provided a great atmosphere.”
Creston won the B game 13-7.

Creston fought from behind in the fourth quarter of regulation to force overtime, and then fell 44-41 in double-overtime Thursday in seventh-grade boys basketball.
Kylan Smallwood scored 20 points for Creston (4-1) and Dale Boyer added 13 points. Post player Logan Reilly led Atlantic with 18.
“This had to be a great game to watch,” Creston coach Kristopher “Kritter” Hayes said. “Our players never quit. We executed very well and fought back from seven points down with just under two minutes left in regulation. I was very proud of Dale Boyer who hit one of two free throws with one second left to send it to the first overtime. We missed a lot of free throws overall and didn’t control some key rebounds late. Credit goes to Atlantic for playing a hard-fought game.”
