From Janel McLain, Dog Gone Rescue director

Dog Gone Rescue is finishing up its second year in Creston and still going strong, thanks to the generosity and support from many caring people in the community, thank you so much. Our latest fundraiser, the second annual Bowl-a-thon and JamFest was a success. Despite the chilly weather we had a great turnout. I really appreciate the companies and individuals who donated, especially those who braved the cold to come out. It raised a lot of money for my rescue and was a lot of fun. The proceeds raised will thankfully keep Dog Gone Rescue going strong into the spring.

I can’t express enough how much it means to me to see how many people do care about animals in our community. Whether it’s volunteering, fostering, adopting or just throwing spare change in one of the jars, if it weren’t for the kindness of others, I wouldn’t be able to help these animals. I sincerely appreciate the communities support. It really does make a big difference.

So far Dog Gone Rescue has been able to find homes for over 70 animals, which include three chickens and a cockatiel. The rescue has been able to donate close to 40 dog houses and straw to dogs in need. It’s a wonderful feeling to know little by little the rescue is helping so many animals.

Also, a big thank you to the Creston News Advertiser for having their shelter drive again this year. It was an early Christmas gift for my adoptable pets. I was overwhelmed by the amount of items donated. It was absolutely wonderful to walk in and see the Christmas tree stuffed so full of gifts you could barely see the tree.

When I got home, I broke out the toys and started throwing them to the dogs, giving them each a treat. They were running around playing, chasing each other, trading toys, just having fun. It was such a sight to see them so happy. Definitely made me smile and laugh. Just brought a lot of joy to the dogs, thank you so much.

The kitties are also enjoying their new scratching posts (one of which was left by a Secret Santa on my porch-thank you) and toys. They were doing cartwheels in the cat nip, chasing toys and scratching in delight on their new scratchers, they just loved everything.

If you’d like to see our pets up for adoption, please look us up on Facebook/Petfinder, or visit our webpage at: www.doggonerescue.com.

I’d also like to thank the individuals who sent in personal donations. It was so heartwarming to see the kindness and generosity of so many. Some of these donations were in Memory of Nate and T.J. Frey. Such a tragic loss for a family to have to deal with, especially this time of year; these two boys will be missed, and I am humbled and happy to use the donations made in their memories to help animals in my rescue.

People in our community have a wonderful way of pulling together when there are families and animals in need. It warms my heart to know I live among such good people. I hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year. Thank you so much for your continued support of Dog Gone Rescue.
