Craig Mittag, advertising director at the Creston News Advertiser, middle, delivers a care package from several local businesses Friday to the family who had the first baby of 2014 at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston. The family includes mother Addy Holbrook, left, holding newborn son Brantlee Murphy Hallett and father Dusty Hallett, right. Inset, Brantlee was born 7:45 p.m. Wednesday at GRMC.

Brantlee Murphy Hallett laid quietly in the hands of his father Friday afternoon — wrapped tightly in a Teddy Bear blanket.

Brantlee was the first Creston baby of 2014 — born at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday via cesarean section at Greater Regional Medical Center. Brantlee weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces and was 19 inches long with a full head of dark hair.

Parents Addy Holbrook and Dusty Hallett — both 20 years old of Creston — said their son is named after Holbrook's favorite country artist Brantley Gilbert.

"We just changed the spelling slightly," Holbrook said. "I like all his music. I couldn't even pick a favorite song if you asked me to."

Brantlee's grandparents are Leah and Scott Crawley of Creston, William and Julie Hallett of Colorado, Mary and Greg Manley of Malvern and Larry Holbrook of Maryville, Mo. Great-grandparents are John and Kathy Ford, Alice and Jimmy Mayers and Bob and Annette Bierkamp.

The Creston News Advertiser visited Brantlee and his parents Friday at GRMC and delivered a care package from several local businesses.

The care package included $20 gift certificates from Fareway, Walmart and Boyd Appliance, free oil change from Creston Automotive, $20 in Creston bucks from both Tyler Insurance and Creston Chamber of Commerce, three-month subscription to the Creston News Advertiser, two boxes of diapers from Creston Hy-Vee and $25 savings account from Nishna Valley Credit Union. See photo, left. Brantlee and his parents were released from GRMC Saturday.

Last year's first Creston baby of the year was Devon Joseph Coenen — born Jan. 4, 2013, to parents Dan and Kathryn Coenen.
