Carl Cochrane, 80, of Afton, formerly of Creston, died Jan. 6, 2014, at his home at C.A.R.E. in Afton.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St., Afton. The Rev. Jim Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery of Creston at a later date. Visitation will be noon to the 1 p.m. service time Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are to be established in his name. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.
Carl Fredrick Cochrane, son of Cora Eliza (Doud) and George Clarence Cochrane, was born June 17, 1933, in Creston.
Carl was educated in Creston schools. Carl lived the majority of his childhood in Creston.
Beginning in 1963, he lived and worked at the county home, between Creston and Afton. There he assisted with farming.
Carl moved to the new county facility in Afton in 1984.
Carl was a member of the First Baptist Church in Creston and had been an active participant with Special Olympics.
Carl is survived by his sisters, Viola Thompson of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Dixie (husband Edwin) Wilson of Des Moines; brothers, Richard “Wayne” Cochrane of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Kenneth Cochrane of Des Moines; C.A.R.E. family of Afton; numerous nieces, nephews and other family.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clarence, Eugene and Mick Cochrane; and sister Doris Burhop.
