Shirlee Deahl, 81, of Corning died Jan. 7, 2014, at her home in Corning.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the First Presbyterian Church in Corning. The Rev. Ken Rummer will officiate. Shirlee was cremated, and no public viewing is planned. Inurnment will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton. Visitation with family present will be 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Pearson Family Funeral Service, 701 Seventh St., Corning, is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family in Shirlee’s name. Shirlee Marie Deahl, daughter of Mildred Mae (Cole) and Harry Truman Briggs, was born March 29, 1932, in Afton.

Shirlee graduated from Afton High School in 1950.

Shirlee began working as a secretary for Afton High School in 1957.  She continued as secretary after Afton was consolidated to East Union High School.

Shirlee lived in Afton, until she was a young adult.

On April 10, 1974, Shirlee married Veldon Deahl in Creston. 

In March 1975, the couple made their home in Corning. It was during this time Shirlee went to work for Corning High School, retiring in 1987. 

Shirlee was on the board for the Corning Opera House restoration.

Shirlee was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and former member of the Women’s Club and P.E.O.

Shirlee is survived by her children, Tracy (Ed) Bell of Virginia Beach, Va., Kim Partridge (significant other Steve) of Newton, Lin (Jim) Deahl-Coy of Ferndale, Mich., Randy Deahl of McCallsburg, Jody (Cletus) Dixon of Laurel, Pam (Mark) Moore of Dayton and Larry (Becky) Deahl of Winterset; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, sister Virginia Seeley of Grinnell and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Shirlee was preceded in death by her parents, husband Veldon Deahl, brother Truman Briggs, sister Marjorie Mikkelsen, niece Lori Mikkelsen and nephew Gary Mikkelsen.
