AFTON — Afton Fitness Center, 100 N. Douglas, reported a break-in occurring at their facility 3:15 a.m. Sunday in Afton. They are at least the fifth business in Union County to report a break-in over the past six weeks.

Owners Laura and Adam Tallmon said the burglars broke in through the east door and stole $200 cash from the facility. They also broke an interior door and damaged a desk.

However, the Tallmons have an ADT security system which captured a photo image of one of the burglars via video surveillance.

Starting today, they are holding screenings of the video for the public during business hours, and the first person to identify and/or give leads to the burglar’s arrest will receive a lifetime membership to the fitness center.

Business hours at the fitness center are 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday.

RAGBRAI announces northern tour for 2014

Creston will not be an overnight stop for the 42nd annual RAGBRAI event — a weeklong tour across Iowa featuring more than 10,000 riders. And, neither will any other small town in southwest Iowa.

RAGBRAI will take place this year from July 20-26. It will start in Rock Valley — located in northwest Iowa — and end 418 miles later in Guttenberg. Riders will stop overnight in Okoboji, Emmetsburg, Forest City, Mason City, Waverly and Independence.

The Des Moines Registers reports the 2014 ride will be the third-shortest and second-flattest in history.

The last time Creston was selected as an overnight stop for RAGBRAI was in 1997.
