The Highland Highlights 4-H meeting was 2 p.m. Jan. 12.

Guest speaker Jenny Studer from IJBBA came to discuss the upcoming beef expo in February. Entries were due Feb. 1. She talked about the new contests this year including photography, graphic design and fitting.

In old business, the 4-H club went Christmas caroling around Creston and visited the local nursing homes in December. Twenty members attended. They plan to do it again next year.

Union County had a beef weigh-in. One hundred forty calves were weighed in, and 34 were identified for state fair and 24 for Aksarben.

All 4-H members were reminded to go online and make sure they are signed up for the various projects they plan on participating in this year at the fair. FSQA training for any 4-H members who plan on exhibiting animals at the fair is coming up, and you must pre-register, so contact the extension office as soon as possible. Sign up by March 21 to attend this training.

The  next meeting will be a Valentine party 2 p.m. Sunday for 4-H members and 1 p.m. for Clover Kids. Presentations will include Savanna Hartman and Aubrey Allen. Treats will be provided by Hayden Green, the Hartmans and Macy Adamson.
