Rena Smith, 83, of Mount Ayr died Feb. 9, 2014, at Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr. The Rev. Terry Roberts will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr. Visitation with family present will be 10 to 11 a.m. service time Thursday at the funeral home. Rena Rae Smith, daughter of Hugh Ord and Louise Miriam Walters, was born Feb. 16, 1930, near Ellston.

On Aug. 12, 1950, she married Billie Jean Smith at the Methodist Church in Tingley.

Rena had several jobs over the years, including stay-at-home mother.

After Bill’s retirement from the fish hatchery, Rena and Bill moved to Mesa, Ariz. She worked at the Iowa Café in Mesa.

In April 1992, they returned home to Mount Ayr.

She was a long time member of Modern Mothers Club.

Rena is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Curt Lininger; son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Ronda Smith; grandchildren, Brandi and Tory Shay, Angie and Cassidy Shay, Renda and Travis Hartman and Casey and Melanie Smith; great-grandchildren, Addison, Adler and Adden Shay, Caden, Kinsie and Kinley Shay, Kylee Smith and Kianna Paxson; brother Keith (Jean) Walters; brothers-in-law, Bobbie (Teri) Smith and Donald (Linda) Smith; sister-in-law Ann Smith; niece Kristy Heffner; nephews, Kevin, Kody and Gery Walters; and many other relatives and friends.

Rena was preceded in death by her husband in 2009, parents, brother Wayne; parents in-law, Ted and Leila Smith; nephew Greg Walters and niece Kelly Rae Liddell.
