Murray 78, Moulton-Udell 51
MOULTON — Murray pulled away in the second quarter of a 78-51 win over Moulton-Udell here on Monday.
“Offensively, this may have been our best game of the year,” head coach Darin Wookey said. “We had 21 assists and four guys in double figures on the night. Andrew Rider had six assists on the night to go along with six rebounds. Those stats get overlooked by most people, but he played a great game as well.”
Trey McHenry scored 21 points with five rebounds and seven assists. Braydon Held hit five 3-pointers, scoring 19 points with four assists. Pat Kilmer added 17 points with six rebounds and two blocked shots. Sam Rockhold scored 15 points with six rebounds.
DIAGONAL — Diagonal’s offense was clicking on all cylinders here on Monday in a 93-64 win over Essex.
The Maroons shot 52.7 percent from the floor and were successful in getting to the free throw line, where they shot 30-of-43.
Sophomore Levi Jarred and junior Blake Butler both scored 25 points to lead the Maroons in scoring. Sophomore Jacob Taylor recorded a triple-double with 15 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists to go with five steals and four blocked shots.
Kenny Weaselhead scored 14 points with five rebounds, while Gerad Naill chipped in 12 points to go with seven rebounds.
Diagonal, 13-7 overall, hosts Mormon Trail on Friday. The last meeting between the two teams, in the Bluegrass Conference Tournament, ended with Diagonal winning 61-59.
Lenox 45, Mount Ayr 33
LENOX — Lenox played one of its best halves of basketball of the entire season in a 45-33 win over Mount Ayr here on Tuesday.
“The second half was one of our best halves of the season, as we were efficient on the offensive side of the ball and did a good job of executing our defensive game plan,” Lenox co-coach Jesse Cox said.
Caleb Lange scored 21 points to lead all scorers and grabbed seven rebounds. Spencer Brown recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Todd Stoaks scored six points with six boards. Dustin Gordon pulled down seven rebounds and dished out six assists, while Frank Martinez finished with five steals.
Jack Jones led Mount Ayr with 14 points, while Riley Weehler added six points with three assists. Caleb Schnoor, Nick Wurster and Kyle Dolecheck all scored three points. Jake Sobotka scored two points with a team-high seven rebounds.
“The ball just didn’t fall for us tonight,” Mount Ayr head coach Bret Ruggles said. “We got open looks and I was happy with the look that we got, we just didn’t hit. In February, you have to make shots, or teams will beat you.”
Nodaway Valley 60, Bedford 40
GREENFIELD — Nodaway Valley survived a cold-shooting night (2-of-19 from 3-point) to pick up a 60-40 win over Bedford here on Tuesday, extending the team’s Pride of Iowa Conference win streak to 50 games.
Jackson Lamb scored 16 points to lead Nodaway Valley, while TJ Bower scored 12 points. Caleb Mueller chipped in nine points, while Delson Grantham scored eight points. Zach Plymesser added seven and Mason Clarke dropped in six.
Plymesser recorded a team-high nine rebounds, while Grantham pulled down eight Lamb finished with seven. Bower dished out four assists and had three steals. Lamb finished with nine steals.
Mormon Trail 61, Murray 58
GARDEN GROVE — Mormon Trail outscored Murray 37-28 in the second half to complete a come-from-behind 61-58 win over the Mustangs here on Tuesday.
“We did not play with a lot of passion tonight and it caught up to us in the end,” Murray head coach Darin Wookey said. “We blew and eight-point lead in the third quarter. We need to play a whole lot better on Friday. Playing at Mormon Trail is tough. They basically have a 10-point lead to start the game and we could not overcome the home court advantage.”
Trey McHenry scored 31 points with six rebounds to lead the Mustangs. Pat Kilmer added 12 points with seven rebounds. Sam Rockhold scored seven points with five rebounds. Braydon Held scored six points with seven boards. Andrew Rider finished with three rebounds and three steals.
Murray fell to 15-5 for the season with the loss. The Mustangs close out the regular season Friday at home against Martensdale-St. Marys.
Lenox 66, Stanton 64
STANTON — Lenox picked up a 66-64 win over Stanton here on Tuesday.
Caleb Lange had a big night with 34 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Tigers. Spencer Brown also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to go with five assists.
Frank Martinez scored seven points. Dustin Gordon chipped in four points with six rebounds. Dawson Tullberg scored four points, while Carson Cline dropped in three points with five boards.
