Lawrence “Larry” Ripperger, 73, of Afton died Feb. 22, 2014, at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston.

A memorial gathering, with family present will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St., Afton. Memorials are to be determined. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Lawrence “Larry” Michael Ripperger, son of Laura Ann (Dittmer) and Lewis John Ripperger Sr., was born July 23, 1940, on a farm northeast of Afton.

Larry graduated from Afton High School in 1958 and served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965.

On Oct. 9, 1965, Larry married Beth Rose McVay at Saint Edwards Catholic Church in Afton. They later divorced.

Larry farmed in the Afton area and later worked for Farmers Coop in Afton from 1987 to 2005.

After retirement, he moved to Bergman, Ark.

Larry was a member of Eagles Lodge No. 605, Creston VFW Post No. 1797 and American Legion.

Larry is survived by his daughters, Robin Vogel of Arispe, Regina (husband Joe) Cooper of Afton, LaRay Ripperger (husband Jim Barr) of Saint Charles and Tanya (husband Jerry) Weis of Creston; son Kip (wife Misty) Ripperger of Afton; grandchildren, Hillary (husband Rusty) Zimmerman, Clarissa Vogel (Mitch Pashek), Shana (husband Jeremy ) Bergmann, Shaylee Cooper, Cole (wife Sarah) Ripperger, Lewis Ripperger, Katelyn Ripperger (Matthew Kelly), Mariah Porter and Josh, Laura and Andy Weis; eight great-grandchildren, brother Lewis “Bud” (wife Peggy) Ripperger and close family friends, Jodie Weis and the Dave Ferron family from Arkansas; uncle Frank (wife Irene) Ripperger of Creston, aunt Bernie Fatino and uncle Dick (wife Ione) Dittmer; two brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, many nieces, nephews and cousins.  

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, LeRoy and LaVerne Ripperger; son-in-law Ray Vogel, three sisters-in-law, six brothers-in-law and mother and father-in-law.
