Wilbur Chubick

Wilbur Chubick, 81, of Creston died Feb. 20, 2014, at his home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25. Mary O’Riley will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. today with family present 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to St. John’s United Church of Christ in Creston and American Cancer Society. Wilbur Rex Chubick, son of Theresa Hester (LeRette) and Arthur Cecil Chubick, was born Dec. 25, 1932, in Spaulding.

On July 11, 1951, Wilbur entered the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged July 12, 1955. While in Japan, Wilbur received his GED and graduated in 1953.

On July 17, 1963, Wilbur married Joan Marie Bonus in Maryville, Mo.

Wilbur was a lifelong resident of Creston, drove a truck for Smith Concrete and worked for CB&Q Railroad as a fireman, and in 1956, he became an engineer.

After retiring from the railroad in 1994, Wilbur worked at Powers Funeral Home for 15 years.

Wilbur was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Creston, National Association of Retired and Veteran Employees (NARVRE), Creston VFW Post No. 1797, Creston Elks Lodge No. 605 and Masons. 

Wilbur is survived by his wife Joan Chubick of Creston; daughters, Tammy (husband Jerry) Willets, Roxanne (husband Jon) Carroll, Michele (husband Doug) Thatcher and Paula (husband Todd) Jacobson, all of Creston; brothers, Marion (wife Ava) Chubick of Creston and Barry Chubick of Arizona; grandchildren, Jason (wife Sonya) Clayton, Cody (wife Tracy) Schaffer, Gabe (wife Linda) Carroll, Whitney Clayton (fiancé Andrew Zellweger), Caleb (wife Kristina) Carroll, Jaime Cox (fiancé Jordan Nelson) and Evan and Isaac Jacobson; great-grandchildren, Chasity and Mason Clayton, Eli and Jaxson Schaffer and Nathan, Opal and Ruby Carroll; step-grandchildren, Kolton and McKenna Thatcher; nephew Delbert Lee Chubick and many other nieces and nephews.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arthur, Delbert, Jerry and Franklin Chubick; sisters, Rosalyn Nash and Doreen Clark; and grandson Connor Carl Jacobson.
