Adair County 4-H scholarships due April 1
GREENFIELD — Applications for the Kelly Laughery 4-H Community Service Scholarships are due April 1.
Adair County 4-H’ers who will graduate from high school this year and have been involved in service efforts are invited to apply. Applicants can enroll in any type of post-secondary program such as trade school, community college or a four-year college. The scholarships are awarded with funds from the Kelly Laughery Endowment Fund along with dollars raised by Adair County 4-H Youth Council. Organizers plan to award up to 13 scholarships this year.
Laughery was involved in service during her 4-H career. She promoted youth involvement in service efforts, while serving the community as an AmeriCorps member. She was also engaged in volunteer work as a student at Iowa State University when her life was cut short by a drunk driver. Anyone wishing to bolster the endowment fund can contact Adair County Extension to make a donation.
Applications for the Rich and Deb Hall Leadership Scholarship are also due April 1. Rich and Deb are offering post-secondary scholarships to recognize youths who have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities. Applicants must have been an active member of Adair County 4-H Youth Council for at least two years, and must be enrolled in a post-secondary, accredited college fall term 2014. Scholarships are not limited to 2014 freshmen, but any full-time student (12 credit hours or more) working toward an associates, bachelors, masters or doctoral degree. Previous recipients of the Rich and Deb Hall Leadership Scholarship are eligible to apply.
