Wahlert trounces Harlan

DES MOINES — Dubuque Wahlert outscored the Harlan Cyclones 41-19 in the second half on their way to a dominant 67-36 Class 3A state semifinal victory.

Harlan (23-3) trailed 16-7 after one period, then played even with Wahlert in the second period before a 22-8 third period onslaught led by point guard Jared Walker, who scored 15 of his 19 points in the period during a five-minute stretch.

Walker was joined in double figures by Cordell Pemsl, who had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Harlan got 16 points, eight rebounds and three blocks from senior Trey Lansman, who was coming off a triple-double in Tuesday’s quarterfinal win over Humboldt.

The Cyclones will play in the third place consolation game Saturday at 12:05 p.m. Wahlert (22-4) will play for the championship at 6:05 p.m. Saturday against Central Clinton, DeWitt.
