Jack Fleming, 78, of West Des Moines, died March 13, 2014, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today, March 17, at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St., Afton. The Rev. Dwayne Henrichs will officiate. Private burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery near Afton. Memorials may be given to the Afton Splash Pad and Afton Volunteer Fire Department. Online condolences may be left at powersfh.com.    

Jack Randall Fleming, son of Blanche Grace (Wickham) and Clarence Shepherd Fleming, was born June 25, 1935, in Afton.

Jack graduated from Afton High School.

Jack served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

After returning home, on Feb. 8, 1959, Jack married Beth Gibson in Afton. 

They settled in Omaha, Neb., where Jack began his career in the furniture business working for Coen’s Furniture. Jack spent his entire career working in furniture sales, while they lived in Omaha and Norfolk, Neb., before moving to West Des Moines, where he worked in sales and management for Homemakers until 2013, when he retired.

Jack was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Norfolk, Neb., and American Legion Post No. 16 in Norfolk, Neb.  

Jack is survived by his wife Beth Fleming of West Des Moines; son Joseph Fleming of West Des Moines; brothers-in-law, Danny and William Gibson and Jack Rusk; sisters-in-law, Jo Lacina and Ann Gibson and many nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald and Stan Fleming; and sisters, Elizabeth Nash, Joanne Foster, Mary Alice Stalker, Carol Rusk and Carmen Danner.
