GREENFIELD — The Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP), a free health insurance counselling service of the state of Iowa, is looking for a few good men and women to serve as volunteer health insurance counselors.  SHIIP counselors assist older adults who have questions or problems related to Medicare, Medicare drug coverage, Medicare supplement insurance, long term care insurance and many other issues. Most SHIIP volunteers are on Medicare themselves and can relate to the concerns of people they help.

Counselors receive six days of intensive training (some is now done online), a comprehensive SHIIP resource manual, regular support and follow-up training from the Iowa Insurance Division.

If you are a person who enjoys meeting and working with people, SHIIP may be the right volunteer opportunity for you.  If you like to solve puzzles, can face obstacles with determination and good humor, have computer skills, are a good listener and believe that knowledge is power, then you are the kind of person we seek.   For more information about becoming a SHIIP volunteer counselor and to get a copy of the counselor job description, call Tiffany Johnson, Adair County Health System, at 641-743-7264.
