Union County and Adair County Board of Supervisors were notified by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Friday that a public notice, matrix evaluation and county recommendation will be required for a construction permit to build a hog confinement in Union and Adair counties.

Circle G Pork Site and Rockin G Ranch Site are expanding their existing swine confinement facilities.

Circle G Pork Site is in section 34 of the Orient Township in Adair County. The proposed structure is a new 2480 head deep pit swine finisher barn.

Rockin G Ranch is in section 6 of Spaulding Township in Union County.

Under Iowa law, the counties must publish a public notice within 14 days of the DNR’s receipt of the application.

Then, supervisors must score the applicant’s master matrix and submit the board’s scoring and recommendation to the DNR no later than 30 days after the DNR received the application.

A public hearing is not required, but is optional.

Adair County must submit their recommendation and matrix score by April 11. Union County has until April 21.

Both boards are still reviewing the information, working on the matrix worksheet and determining if a public hearing will be held.
