Toby married Anna Coleman on February 28, 1970, in Maryville, Missouri. The couple moved to Boone from Urbandale in 1979.

Toby’s next source of joy was playing golf and cards with friends. His other hobbies included racing, restoring old cars and golf carts, and driving his Corvette. He enjoyed each morning playing his guitar with passion and commitment to become the accomplished guitar player he was.

He was a long time member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone where he was active in the choir, worship band, church council, and performing with the Augie Bottom Boys Group for Augie’s Diner.
