Creston FBLA students advance to national competition

A record number of Creston High School students attended the Future Business Leader’s of America (FBLA) conference. Sixteen of these students are eligible to compete at nationals in Nashville, Tenn., in June.

Awards received include:

First place: American enterprise project – Michelle Powers, Sarah Waigand and Maxx Walters; local chapter annual business report – Bree Daggett and Cierra Clayton; personal finance – Jenna Taylor; public service announcement – Olivia Nielsen and Maxx Walters; technology practical applications – Ben Mullin; word processing – Ben Mullin.

Second place: community service project – Adam Baker, Raegen Smith and Ann Waigand; cyber security – Sam Eagan; desktop publishing – Sam Eagan and Brandon Robertson; digital video production – Sarah Waigand and Maxx Walters; partnership with business – Levi Eblen and Audrey Fyock.

Third place: leadership – Sarah Waigand; personal finance – Alli Thomsen; spreadsheet applications – Jenna Taylor.

Fourth place: computer apps – Ben Mullin; local chapter exhibit – Kristy Powers and Katie Powers; spreadsheet applications – Alli Thomsen; job interview – Levi Eblen; Who’s Who in FBLA – Levi Eblen, an award given a majority of the time to state officers.

Fifth place: FBLA principles and procedures – Ann Waigand

Sixth place: job interview – Michelle Powers

Creston FBLA also received Iowa Merit Status, sixth place in largest percent increase of chapter and first place in March of Dimes contributor. The chapter earned sixth place for the Lloyd V. Douglas Award. Award recipients are chosen by earning the most points for member participation and placement at the conference.

Rhonda Miller from BUNN received a Businessperson of the Year Award for her service to the chapter over the years.
