Spartans open road trip with two losses

WEST BURLINGTON — Division I Southeastern Community College swept Division II Southwestern in softball action Tuesday, 6-4 and 9-5.

Southeastern, which trails Iowa Western and Muscatine in the ICCAC Division I standings, improved to 8-19 overall. Southwestern fell to 11-12 overall, and takes a 5-7 D-II league mark into today’s doubleheader at first place Kirkwood (13-1, 34-5).

Losing pitcher Danielle McIntosh was 3-of-4 with two home runs and two RBI for Southwestern in Monday’s opening game.

Sam Strand pitched the second game and also had a strong performance at the plate, driving in two runs with a homer. Peyton Russell doubled and knocked in two runs.

After the road trip, Southwestern returns home Friday to host Central Community College of Columbus, Neb.
