The struggling economic recovery in America can be laid at the feet of the pay disparity between men and women. Mothers are the breadwinners of more households than ever before. Equal pay for the same work as men is crucial to Iowa families and children.
Now, women make 77 cents for every dollar a man makes. At that rate, only this week does a woman’s pay for the last 15 months catch up with what a man made for the same work in just 12.
This discrimination cripples out country. It’s not 1958. It’s 2014.
Women make up half our workforce. American families will do better when women have a fair shot. The economy, too.
