Kansas Relays

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Three Mount Ayr events qualified for the Kansas Relays last weekend.

The 4x100 relay team of Grant Staats, Erik Freed, Jacob Sobotka and Cody Stackhouse was fifth in its heat and 36th out of 50 teams in a time of 45.96.

The 4x400 relay team of Kyle Dolecheck, Noah Larsen, Freed and Sobotka was third in its heat and 13th of 45 entries in a time of 3:29.69.

The 4x800 relay team of Freed, Sobotka, Dolecheck and Larsen was second in its heat and 18th overall among 38 entries in a time of 8:28.42.

The Raider 4x100 and 4x400 relays are participating in the Drake Relays this weekend.

Former Spartans

FOREST CITY — Three former Southwestern softball players were contributors in the Waldorf College team moving its record to 31-7 with a weekend spit with AIB.

Carla Smith caught the 5-0 opening game victory, and infielder/DH Danyielle Barger had two hits. Also on the team is former SWCC outfielder Ashley Brandt, who has a team-high 28 runs scored while hitting .374. Brant is 7-of-7 on stolen base attempts.

Smith is batting .410 this season with a hone run, 21 runs scored and 11 RBI in 26 games. Barger is batting .392 with 23 runs batted in and four home runs, which ranks third on the team.
