From Garrett Carty
Today represents how far into women would need to work to earn as much as men did in 2013. Although progress has been made in regard to gender equality, there is still much work to be done.
Despite representing over half of the workforce, women working full-time jobs are paid only 77 cents for every dollar paid to men. This pay disparity will cost women anywhere from $400,000 to $2 million in lost wages over a lifetime. This absurdity needs to end, and it needs to end now. We must elect politicians who will work to end the pay gap.
That’s why I support U.S. House candidate Staci Appel. As a senator, Staci proved her commitment to gender equality by making Iowa the first state to require equal pay for equal work. I know that if we send Staci to Washington she will continue to fight for the rights of all Iowans.
