Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad recently signed HF2366 into law, altering when county offices can be open for voter registration. Voters can no longer pre-register Saturday, May 24.
“County auditors have wanted this bill passed for a while now,” said Union County Auditor Sandy Hysell. “We just don’t see a lot of people coming in ... it will be a cost savings for the county not to be open for eight hours with no traffic.”
The auditor’s office will be open until 5 p.m. Friday, May 23, for voter registration for the primary election. It will also be open Saturday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for absentee voting.
