Richard ‘Dick’ DeYoung Laurens

Richard “Dick” DeYoung, 86, of Laurens died April 29, 2014, at Pocahontas Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 2, at the United Methodist Church in Laurens. The Rev. Jim Turner will officiate. Burial will be in Laurens Cemetery, near Laurens. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at Smith-Loterbour-Powers Funeral Home, 104 W. Main St., Laurens. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.net.

Richard L. DeYoung was born in Laurens.

Richard graduated from Laurens High School in 1947. After graduation, he attended Cedar Rapids Business College, graduating in 1950.

After college, Richard began his banking career in Storm Lake.

In 1951, Richard was drafted into the United States Army.

After his service, Richard returned to Storm Lake to resume his banking career. He worked for the Iowa Division of Banking and banks in Tama and Creston, before returning to Laurens. He retired from Laurens State Bank in 1998, but still served on the bank board until his death. Richard served in the banking industry for 64 years.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Diane (Terry) Latham of Laurens and Denese (Jay) Hoskinson of Dallas Center; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife LaDonna; sons, Ricky and Doug; parents, two brothers, one sister and one great-grandchild.
