MORAVIA — The Nodaway Valley boys finished sixth overall out of 18 teams here Thursday at The Preserve on Rathbun Lake.
“It was a great tournament against teams that we do not see from central and eastern Iowa,” head coach Steve Shantz said. “We were the low 1A school and as a team, we set a goal of 340 and met that. We have never played this course and it was very challenging for us as well as the other teams.”
Nodaway Valley posted a team score of 340. The Wolverines were led by Delson Grantham’s round of 77, which was good enough for sixth overall — one spot short of earning a medal.
“This was a great experience for our team,” Shantz said. “To battle the elements and a new course was a challenge for them, but they reached their team goal.”

LEON — East Union narrowly defeated a strong Central Decatur team here on Monday, 176-179. Bedford, with only three boys golfers, did not post a team score.
“Not a great team day for scores, but enough for the victory,” East Union head coach Dave Campbell said. “Hopefully we have got our bad day of golf out of our system with the conference meet coming up next week.”
Central Decatur’s Noah Simon won medalist honors, with East Union junior Cole Campbell taking runner-up honors with his round of 39, three strokes back of Simon.
