June Kile Creston

June Kile, 81, of Creston, formerly of Afton, died May 4, 2014, at Greater Regional Hospice Home.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Graceland Cemetery south of Creston. The Rev. William Richardson will officiate. No public visitation or viewing is scheduled. Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, Creston, is assisting with arrangements. Memorials are to be determined later. Online condolences may be left at

Beverly June Kile, daughter of Nellie Ellen (Skelding) and Jesse Willis Cockerham, was born Aug. 8, 1932, in Des Moines.

June was educated at Des Moines East High School.

On Sept. 21, 1948, June married Kenneth Eugene Kile in Des Moines. They settled in Des Moines area where June was an active mother and homemaker. June also worked as a bookkeeper and co-owner of the Easttown Appliance in Des Moines.

In 1979, they moved to Afton, where they both worked until their retirement.

Ken died in 1991.

June worked with her daughter Jean for Sugar and Spice Café in Afton, catering meals on Wednesdays to the Afton Golf and Country Club.

June was a member of Afton Assembly of God Church and the church’s women’s ministries.

June is survived by her daughter Jean (husband Stan) Mohr of Creston; sons, Robert (wife Sue) Kile of King City, Mo., Kenneth (wife Susan) Kile of Shannon City and Brian (wife Cathy) Kile of Creston; sister Noveline (husband Howard) Martin of Panora; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, June was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Daniel Kile and Leslie Kile in infancy; daughter Brenda Painter; six brothers and five sisters.
