Stanley ‘Tiger’ Frederick
Stanley Frederick, 81, of Corning died May 11, 2014, at Corning Nursing and Rehab Center.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 701 Seventh St., Corning. Larry Johnson will officiate. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery in Quincy in Adams County. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Stanley Edward Frederick, son of Lois Wilma (Wild) and Frank Calkins Frederick, was born Feb. 18, 1933, in Corning.
Stanley grew up in the Carbon area and attended school there through the eighth grade, and attended high school in Corning, completing the 11th grade.
On April 5, 1951, “Tiger” enlisted in the United States Navy in Des Moines. He was stationed in Argentia, Newfoundland and received his honorable discharge on March 24, 1955, in Florida.
Tiger returned to Adams County and began farming with his father.
On Jan. 29, 1956, Stanley married Ernestine Lawrence in Corning. The couple later divorced.
On Oct. 21, 1966, Tiger married Glenda Ruth Sturdevant in Omaha, Neb.
Besides farming, Tiger also worked as a bookkeeper for Morgan Implement and for Dallas Walters at the Ready Mix concrete plant. He partnered with Melvin McKay, and together they operated the Red Bull for several years.
As part of his farming operation, Tiger raised Charolais cattle and produced both corn and soy beans.
Stanley was a lifelong resident of Adams County and longtime member of Ourcq Post No. 117 Corning American Legion.
Stanley is survived by his wife Glenda Ruth Frederick of Corning; children, Frank (Beth) Frederick of Waverly, Lynne (Alvin) Inman of Prescott, Kirk Frederick of Corning and Doug Frederick of Brighton, Mich.; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; sister Marilyn Gaskill of Glenwood; one nephew, two nieces, other relatives and many friends.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Ernestine and brother-in-law Francis Gaskill.
