Creston High School senior Kruz Adamson (front, center) signs a National Letter of Intent to attend Graceland University in Lamoni on a wrestling scholarship. Also in front are his aunt and uncle Tami and Kris Adamson. Kruz is the son of Kent Adamson and the late Chelle Casteel. Shown in back are Creston/O-M wrestling coach Darrell Frain, Graceland wrestling coach Zack Mullins and Graceland wrestler Bryson Kinyon of East Union, who hosted Adamson on a Graceland recruiting visit. Adamson, projected as a 125-pounder in college, was a two-time Hawkeye 10 champion and a 2014 state qualifier with 141 career victories. He plans to major in exercise science, concentrating on corrective exercise and performance enhancement. "I was looking for kids in the area who would be good for our program," Mullins said. "He's had success both in the classroom and on the mat. That's what excited us about Kruz."

The Panthers (11-3), ranked No. 12 in Class 2A, will host Winterset in the substate opener at 6 p.m. May 27 in a rematch of the Panthers’ opening-round victory last year on the Huskies’ field.

Again, the winner of that match travels to Glenwood May 29 to face the seventh-ranked Rams, who have a first-round bye.

The substate final is at noon May 31 at Dallas Center-Grimes. The top half of the bracket includes sixth-ranked DC-Grimes along with Harlan and Carroll.

In Class 1A, Nodaway Valley boys face North Polk at 5 p.m. May 27 at West Central Valley of Stuart. The winner plays on the same field May 29 against Atlantic or West Central Valley.
