Shannon City 104th Alumni Banquet

Sixty alumni and guests attended the 104th Shannon City Alumni Banquet held May 24 at the Eagle’s Club in Creston. Co-chairwomen were Bonnie Ergenbright Baker (1959), Linda Foy James (1960) of Creston and Ann Comer Sanson (1959) of Clarinda.  Registration started at 3 p.m. with a 5 p.m. supper. Linda James gave the welcome and Lee Ayers (1945) of Webster City gave the invocation.

Ann Sanson served as the MC for the evening and thanked everyone for making the evening a success.

Graduates attending were celebrating their 55th, 60th, 65th, and 70th banquets. They were: 1959 – Bonnie Ergenbright Baker, Alan Comer and Ann Comer Sanson; 1954 – Patty Dunlap Reed of Prole and Ron Jones of Afton; 1949 – Donna Ruckman Berdine of Creston and Alivon Clough of Ellston; 1944 – Loren Gehrke of Clarksdale, Mo.

Baker, James and Sanson will be in charge of the 105th banquet next year. The date has been set for May 23, 2015, at the Eagle’s Club, starting with registration at 3 p.m. and supper being served at 5 p.m.

Other alumni attending were: ’35 – Thelma Ibbotson Grimes of Mount Ayr; ’42 – Agnes Marie Swanson Eklund of Creston; ’43 – Merlin Swanson of Rock Island, Ill.; ’45 – Melba Woosley Akers of Creston and Irene Swanson Peppmeier of Creston; ‘46 – Verla Swinehart Fitzgerald of Nevada and Eloise Kilgore White of Creston; ’47 – John and Shirley Weber Henry of Creston, Jack Hoffman of Shannon City; ’48 – Althea Means Hoffman of Shannon City and Audrey Comer Lewellen of Omaha, Neb.; ’50 – Richard “Dick” Ide of Shannon City and Bill Linthicum of Des Moines; ’52 – Bob Arnold of Shannon City, Johnnie Land of Afton, Dick Ross of Creston, Pauline Comer Sparks of Vacaville, Calif., and Elma Short Stickel of Colorado Springs, Colo.; ’53 – Shirley Woolsey Ide of Shannon City; ’57 – Eldon Harden of Creston, Jerry Hoffman of Urbandale and Lucille Woldruff Jones of Afton; ’58 – Ella Jean Eklund Hoffman of Urbandale and Ronnie Simpson of Shannon City.

East Union Class of 1964

East Union Class of 1964 will be celebrating its 50th class reunion June 27-29.

Activities begin June 27 with class dinner 6 to 9 p.m. at Arispe Feed and Grain, Highway 169 and North Division, Arispe. Order from the menu or have a choice of grilled salmon, prime rib, ribeye or Iowa chop. Dinner is Dutch treat.

The East Union All Class Reunion is June 28 at East Union High School in Afton. A table will be designated for class of 1964. Doors open at 3 p.m. for visiting, picture taking and to look at memorabilia. Dinner at 6 p.m. is catered by Up In Smoke. Cost is $12 per plate.
