The 2014 Union County Fair will be celebrating its 50th anniversary of crowning the Union County Fair Queen and the eighth annual Little Princess contest to recognize the exceptional young women in our community. Candidates for this year’s contest may enter through June 30 with judging scheduled for the evening of July 13. The coronation will be held July 19 at Union County Fairgrounds in Afton, where previous queens are invited to attend to be honored, and the 2014 queen will be crowned.
An organization, church, business or individual must sponsor each candidate. Entry fee is $10 for queen candidates and $7 for princess candidates and must be paid by the sponsor at the time of entry.
Each queen contestant must be at least 16 years of age and not exceeding 21 years of age by Aug. 7. Little princess contestants must be at least 6 years of age and not more than 8 years of age by the same date.
Interested individuals for the queen contest must never have been married nor have children. Candidates must reside in Union County or an adjoining county if the majority of her activities are in Union County. Entrants must also be an active member of at least one worthwhile organization. The winner of the queen contest will receive a $250 college scholarship, crown, sash, trophy and prizes. Remaining queen contestants will receive cash rewards and prizes.
The selected princess will receive a crown, sash and trophy. Each princess candidate will be awarded a medal recognizing a unique characteristic about the individual and a gift certificate to the Union County Fair cook shack.
Miss Union County Fair Queen reigns over the fair events at the Union County Fairgrounds from July 19-24 and makes special appearances at community events. The queen will also represent Union County in the 2014 Iowa State Fair with judging dates Aug. 5-9 in Des Moines.
Miss Union County Little Princess will assist the queen in reigning over the events at the 2014 Union County Fair.
