Judith E. Pottorff, 74, of Mount Ayr died May 30, 2014, at her home in Mount Ayr.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr. The Rev. Edward Shields will officiate. Burial will be in Tingley Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in her name to be decided later. Online condolences may be left at

Judith E. Pottorff, daughter of Genevieve (Lockwood) and David Lyle Jobe, was born May 28, 1940, at home north of Mount Ayr.

In 1941, the family moved to Tingley, where she lived until her marriage.

Judy graduated from Tingley High School in 1958.

In 1958, Judy married Greg Wood.

In 1963, Judy married Jim Pottorff.

They lived on the farm southeast of Mount Ayr for 32 1/2 years, before moving to Mount Ayr in 1998.

Judy was a farm wife and also worked outside of the home at Western Mutual in Des Moines; McNeiley Drug and Mitchell Drug Store in Mount Ayr; and the Family Resource Center.

Judy belonged to Forget-Me-Nots, Second Childhood Doll Club, Antique Club, Ringgold County Hospital Auxiliary and Queen Mum Court of the Red Hat Club.

Judy is survived by her son Mike (wife Mercedes) Wood of Los Angeles, Calif.; daughter Barbara Pottorff of Altoona; grandson Nicholas Wood and Mercedes’ children, Kevin, Kenneth and Kristoffer Averion; great-granddaughter Rosalind Violet; special grandchildren, Leigh, Mike, Anne and Kate James; stepson Bill (wife Katie) Pottorff of Diamond Bar, Calif., and their children, Alex and Adam; stepdaughter Vicky (husband Dave) Sherwood of Des Moines; step-grandchildren, Jennielle Palmasano and her children Cole, Logan and Kylee; and Jason (wife Catrina) King and their children, Trent and Jayden; brothers and sisters, Elizabeth Welsh of Fort Calhoun, Neb., Jim (wife Glenda) Jobe of Sun Lakes, Ariz., Jerry (wife Mary Lynn) Jobe of Darien, Ill., and Ginger Lynch of Des Moines; close friend Hank Smith of Mount Ayr; best friend Norma Jean Jones; other relatives and friends.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Monte Dale Pottorff; grandparents, Jacob and Minnie Lockwood and George and Linnie Jobe.
