Catholic Daughters

Catholic Daughters of the America’s Joan of Arc Court No. 428 met in the parish hall after Mass celebrated by the Rev. Ken Halbur.

A meal was served by the committee consisting of Lois Nelson, Suzie McCall, Maxine May, Kathy Tapkin and Betty Baker.

The program was then presented by Pat Kane on quilts she had made.

The meeting was called to order by Regent Betty Baker.

The Opening Ode to Catholic Daughters was sung followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

The March minutes were read and Tapkin made a motion to approve the minutes, and Pat Pokorny seconded it. Motion passed.

Then the April minutes were read, and there was one correction made to these minutes. Lois Nelson made a motion to approve the minutes and Mary McElroy seconded. Motion passed.

The treasurer’s report was read. There was $220 made on the lifesaver project; $88 will go to the CD of A, and the rest will go to a local service project. Rhetta Ripperger worked at St. Edward’s Parish in Afton and Barb Tompsen, Theresa Weis, Carolyn Downing and Jean Miller worked at the Holy Spirit Parish. Baker will check with the Rev. Halbur or Kay to see which service will benefit from this. Tapkin made a motion to talk to the Rev. Halbur or Kay, and Sharon Skarda seconded it. Motion carried.

CD of A has a 30-month, non-personal certificate that renews Sept. 30. It was decided to table the decision to renew and let the new officers decide what to do with it.

This court will be celebrating its 95th anniversary in November. Be thinking about how to celebrate.

CD of A has a safe deposit box, and Theresa will check and see what needs to be done with it.

Dorothy Peak sent a thank you with $25, and thank yous were also received from Irene Book and JoAnn Moffitt.

Graduation breakfast was held May 25.

Ladies Night Out will be June 10. Women will be going to Diagonal to the Fireside Restaurant. Meet at the church to carpool. Let Betty know if you wish to attend.

Officers for the next term have been elected, and they are as follows: Regent Rhetta Ripperger, Vice Regent Anita Studer, Recording Secretary Carol McKee, Treasurer Theresa Weis and Financial Secretary Kay Kinsella.

June is Priest Appreciation Month and the Rev. Halbur will be given a gift. An amount was suggested in script cards. Jean Miller made a motion to get the script cards, and Pat Pokorny seconded it.

Catholic Daughters will be receiving bills from state and national dues that will be paid.
