Donald Keeler, 77, of Creston died June 10, 2014, at his home.

Celebration of life services will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 13, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25. The Rev. Janna Steed will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery south of Creston. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today with family present 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Donald Gene Keeler, son of Hazel Viola (Rabb) and Edward George Keeler, was born Dec. 27, 1936, in Iowa City.

Don was educated in Glidden, Lamoni and Davenport schools. Don was on a traveling team that helped farmers with their harvest work in 1955. He went on to receive training at the Stevenson Auto and Electrical School in Kansas City, Mo., in 1956.

On Sept. 14, 1958, Don married Mary I. Coleman in Prescott.

Don worked for Kerr Cochran Chevy Garage in Creston for 16 years. He was an auto body repairman. He did electrical work for Nook Electric of Creston for four years. Don went on to provide security for the Union County Fair livestock projects and cared for the flower gardens at Iowa State Saving Bank of Creston.

Don is survived by his wife Mary Keeler of Creston; foster father, Lawrence Vogel of Lamoni; daughters, Gloria Ross of Ankeny, Jodie (husband Brad) Sheren and Jenny (significant other Dave) Rouh, all of Creston; sons, Wesley (wife Coleen) Keeler, Wayne (wife Cheryl) Keeler and Doug (wife Diana) Miller, all of Creston; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Louis Keeler of Davenport and David (wife Debbie) Vogel of Independence, Mo.; sisters, Carol (husband Irvin) Caylor of Holden, Mo., Anna Lynn Vogel of Lamoni, Joy (husband Javier) Delgado of Mexico and Ruby Keeler of Carroll; sisters-in-law, Ella (husband Dale) McGinnis and Shirley Johnson, all of St. Louis, Mo., and Barbara Coleman of Corning; and brother-in-law John Coleman of Creston.

Don was preceded in death by his biological parents; foster mother Irene Vogel; grandson Brenden Lee Keeler in 2001; sister Mary Lois Vogel; father- and mother-in-law, Wilson and Lela Coleman; sister and brother-in-law, Leo and Nancy Sheriff; brother-in-law James “Chris” Coleman; and sister-in-law Myrna Coleman.
