Carroll Mercer, 85, of Corning died June 11, 2014, at Corning Nursing and Rehab.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 701 Seventh St., Corning. The Rev. Fred Bryson will officiate. Interment will be in Brooks Cemetery. Carroll Douglas Mercer, son of Jesse Evans and Spurgeon Harry Mercer, was born Dec. 26, 1928, in Tinsman, Ark.
Carroll’s family moved to Iowa when he was 9 years old, and he attended school in Brooks.
On March 3, 1946, Carroll married Maxine Carr in Leavenworth, Kan.
Carroll lived his entire life in Adams County. He worked as a farmer, truck driver, Red Star Mills employee and more than 30 years for Adams County as a heavy equipment operator.
Carroll served as a trustee for the Brooks Cemetery.
Carroll is survived by his son Denny (Deborah) Mercer of Waukee; son Doug (Janet) Mercer of Brooks; daughter Janice Mercer Leonard of Corning; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Carroll was preceded in death by his wife, parents, infant son Richard Harry Mercer and his eight siblings.
