East Union 2, SW Valley 1

AFTON — Dustin Hoyt pitched a complete game four-hitter with 13 strikeouts and no walks as East Union edged Southwest Valley Thursday, 2-1.

Cole Campbell was 2-of-2 with an RBI for the Eagles. Tyler Kelley also drove in a run. Hoyt allowed no earned runs.

"The boys played a very good game with only a couple of hiccups in the sixth inning, but made the plays to finish a great night of baseball," EU coach Dave Campbell said.

Nick Frederick took the loss for Southwest Valley, also allowing no earned runs with 11 strikeouts and two walks. Coleton Drake had two singles and a run for the Timberwolves.

"Nick really threw a nice game for us, but we just couldn't string enough hits together to score more runs," Southwest Valley coach Pete Nett said. "We had our chances — left eight on base."

Lamoni 5, O-M 4

LAMONI — Orient-Macksburg had 14 hits but came up a run shot in a 5-4 loss to Lamoni in 12 innings Thursday night.

Jordan Thompson had a strong pitching performance, going nine inning with two runs allowed on just two hits with 14 strikeouts. After reaching the innings limitation, Thompson was relieved by Dylan Nichols, who got four strikeouts in three innings.

"This was an amazing game to be a part of," said O-M coach Tyler Peterson, whose team reached the finals of the Bedford Tournament
