This week, Loyal Winborn, ward 2 city councilman, announced his resignation from Creston City Council.

Winborn — information technology systems networking instructor at Southwestern Community College for the past eight years — has accepted an IT director position at South Hamilton School District in Jewell located about 20 miles from Ames.

“I loved my job at the college,” Winborn said. “They were one of the best employers I’ve ever had. But, this move will get the kids closer to grandparents and more services (for my son Evan) in Ames. It’s been a privilege and pleasure to serve on this council.”

Winborn’s final city council meeting will be July 1. He’s served on the council since January 2008.

“He’s been an excellent member of the council,” said Creston Mayor Warren Woods. “He had great ideas and was forthright in discussion. I hate to see him and his family leave Creston, but we wish them the best.”

Winborn’s departure now leaves a vacany on city council in ward 2. If interested in the seat, send a resume and letter of interest by email to cityclerk@crestoniowa.gov, by mail to PO Box 449, Creston, IA, 50801 or in person at 116 W. Adams St. in Creston.

Woods hopes to appoint a new councilperson by the first meeting in August. This new councilperson would fulfill the remainder of Winborn’s term which expires Dec. 31, 2015.
