Eugene ‘Doc’ Kuhns Jr.

Eugene “Doc” Kuhns Jr., 67, of Ealrham, formerly of the Greenfield area, died June 20, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, at the United Methodist Church in Greenfield. Burial will be in Hill of Zion Cemetery, rural Orient. Visitation with family present will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Greenfield. Steen Funeral Home, 101 S.E. Fourth St., Greenfield, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to the Doc Kuhns memorial fund to be established by the family at a later date. Online condolences may be left at www.steenfunerals.com.

Eugene Gerald Kuhns Jr., son of Mary Jean (Michie) and Eugene Gerald Kuhns, was born Aug. 3, 1946, in Creston.

Doc grew up in the Greenfield area and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1964.

After high school, he attended Iowa State University and Creston Junior College.

Doc also served in the Army Reserves, where he was trained as a draftsman.

On Dec. 23, 1967, Doc married Beverly Looney in Cromwell.

Doc worked as a draftsman prior to joining the family farming operation.

On Dec. 31, 2001, Doc married Deborah Wood in Earlham.

After being diagnosed with a lung disorder, he received a lung transplant.

Doc is survived by his wife Deb Kuhns of Earlham; children, Matthew (wife Denise) Kuhns of Greenfield, Samantha (husband Chad) Jensen of Indianola and Nathan Kuhns of Orient; stepdaughter Heather (husband Quincy) Snell of Winterset; stepson Brent (wife Jill) Stanford of Cumming; sister Linda Sidey of Greenfield; grandchildren, Max, Mallory and Macy Kuhns, Ellie and Ty Jensen, Mila Kuhns, Ryley and Ryder Snell and Tyler, Blake and Kayde Stanford; mother- and father-in-law, Bob and Delores Luce of Murray; other relatives and friends.

Doc was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother Gary Kuhns.
