Darwin Holtmyer, 73, of Washington died June 21, 2014.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 27, on the farm, 1204 Macksburg Rd., Macksburg. A private family gathering will immediately follow at Moon Cemetery in Macksburg. Visitation with family present will be 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at Kramer’s Café in Orient. Beatty and Peterseim Funeral Home, Washington, is in charge of arrangements. Darwin Lyle Holtmyer, son of John “Bus” and Wilma Holtmyer, was born Aug. 21, 1940, in Red Oak. He was raised on a farm near Greenfield, where he graduated from high school in 1959.
On June 4, 1962, Darwin married Jeanette Mundt (Allen) in a country church near Massena.
Darwin and Jeanette raised their family near the Greenfield and Stuart areas, then eventually settled their family on an acreage outside of Macksburg.
Darwin remained in his Macksburg home until the recent decline of his health. He then moved near children to a nursing home in Washington.
Darwin later married Sharon Beckman of Des Moines from 1986-96, and then married Cyrena Durham from 1996-2005.
Darwin is survived by his children, Diana Kramer (Dan Stark) of Leon, Donna (Kevin) Blair of Griswold, Jeffery (Tamera) Holtmyer of Knightstown, Ind., Jerry (Barbara) Holtmyer of Washington, Denise (Michael) Peiffer of Washington, Debra (Marty) Vohs of Moville and Rita Holtmyer of Fort Madison; brother Lee Holtmyer (Martha) of New Virginia; sister Judy Bullis of Winterset; sister-in-law Pat Ashley of Las Vegas, Nev.; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Darwin was preceded in death by his parents, adopted brother Lyle Ashley and granddaughter Mamie Blair.
