Ruth Nickle Clearfield

Ruth Nickle, 98, of Clearfield died July 1, 2014, at Clearview Home in Clearfield.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield. The Rev. Shurmaine McAlpine will officiate.

Burial will be in Clearfield Cemetery. Open visitation will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday with the family present noon to service time at the church. Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Clearfield and Mount Ayr is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be given to Clearfield Public Library.

Ruth Nickle, daughter of Nona Ermina (Porter) and William Franklin Stingley, was born Aug. 20, 1915, at Woonsocket, Sanborn County, S.D.

Ruth grew up in Clearfield and graduated from Clearfield High School in 1933.

Ruth was a teacher at Grant No. 4, a country school west of Clearfield, before she was married.

On June 4, 1938, Ruth married Rue R. Nickle in Bedford at her parent’s home.

They farmed south of Clearfield where Ruth was a homemaker.

Ruth was a member of Clearfield United Methodist Church, UMW and circle at the church. Ruth belonged to the Friendly Neighborhood Club and served on the Clearfield Public Library Board.

Ruth is survived by her children, Leona (George) Barker of Neola and Randall (Candias) Nickle of Clearfield; grandchildren, Susan (David) Cole of Exline, Nancy (Jim) Ross of Underwood, Nathan (Stasia) Nickle of Clearfield and Natasha (Mitch) Gourley of Clearfield; great-grandchildren, Brynn, Breya and Brittlyn Nickle and Tytan and Brogan Gourley; cousin Leann (Carroll) Baker of Clearfield; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband Nov. 15, 2010; great-grandson Franklin Ross; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen (Lloyd) Welch and Leota (Tom) Hunt.
