LAMONI — Murray advanced to a Class 1A District 13 semifinal with a 12-9 win here Tuesday over Mount Ayr.

Trey McHenry went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs batted in to lead an otherwise balanced Murray attack.

Seven Mustang players drove in a run in the contest. Jack Jones and Mason Simmons each recorded two hits in the game.

Jones, Simmons, Braydon Held, Sam Rockhold, Matt Rockhold and Kenny Boles each drove in one run.

Boles picked up the win on the mound, pitching four innings and giving up six hits, while striking out three. Daulton Winship closed out the game’s final three innings, giving up four hits, walking one and striking out three.

Murray rallied from a 5-2 deficit to take a 7-6 lead into the seventh inning, where the Mustangs outscored Mount Ayr 5-3 in the final inning.

Quency Vos took the loss on the hill for Mount Ayr, giving up seven runs on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out six and walked one. Levi Jarred pitched an inning of relief with five runs on four hits. Weston Schnoor finished the final 2/3 of an inning.

Offensively, Jarred had three hits and one RBI for the Raiders, while Vos also had three hits, including a double. Rhett Murphy hit a double and drove in one run. Schnoor, Lincoln Martin and Erik Freed each drove in one run. Jacob Taylor hit a triple.

Murray returns to Lamoni on Thursday for a 7 p.m. contest with East Union in the district semifinals.

East Union 6, Lamoni 2

LAMONI — East Union knocked off host Lamoni 6-2 here Tuesday night in a Class 1A District 13 quarterfinal.

The Eagles now return to Lamoni for a 7 p.m. game on Thursday against Murray in the district semifinals. The winner of that game will play either Nodaway Valley or Martensdale-St. Marys on Saturday in St. Marys in the district final.

Both East Union and Lamoni scored one run in the first inning, but the Eagles added two more in the second inning.

Lamoni cut the lead to 3-2 in the third inning, before East Union pushed three runs across the plate in the sixth inning.

Lenox 12, Stanton 2

LENOX — Lenox scored four runs in the fifth inning and four more in the sixth inning here Tuesday to earn a 12-2 win over Stanton in a Class 1A District 15 quarterfinal.

The Tigers will host Bedford 7 p.m. Thursday in the district semifinals. Bedford defeated Nishnabotna 14-9 on Tuesday.

Spencer Brown struck out 13 batters and walked four, giving up just two hits in the win.

Dustin Gordon went 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs batted in, including driving in the walkoff run in the sixth inning to end the game by the 10-run mercy rule.

Jared Hensley doubled and drove in three runs. Todd Stoaks finished 3-4 at the plate.

Lenox improved to 20-5 for the season with the win.
