Larry Denton, 73, of Creston died July 17, 2014, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, at First United Methodist Church, 400 N. Elm St. The Rev. Melvin Ammon will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery east of Afton. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25. Larry Dale Denton, son of Wilda Marie (Henry) and B. Dale Denton, was born April 9, 1941, in Creston.
He attended Dodge No. 6 Country School and graduated from Lorimor High School in 1959.
After graduation, Larry worked as a farmhand.
In September 1962, he started at Afton Co-op.
On Jan. 27, 1963, Larry married Rosalie Ann Wilmeth at Dodge Center Methodist Church.
They moved to Indianola in January 1965, where he worked for the Walnut Grove Company.
In May 1966, they moved to Creston, where Larry began working for the Farmers-Crestland Cooperative until 2001. Larry worked in agronomy and eventually managed the agronomy department.
In 2001, Larry went to work for Cropmate until retiring in 2006.
Larry was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Creston where he served on various committees. Larry also had served on the Union County Fair Board for six years.
Larry is survived by his wife Rosalie Denton of Creston; daughters, Cindy Curtis of Ankeny and Kim (husband Steve) Martin of Waukee; son Chuck (wife Tammy) Denton of West Des Moines; brother Bill Denton of Afton; brother-in-law Stephen (wife Roxy) Wilmeth of Merriam, Kan.; and grandchildren, Kayla Strain, Gary and Leslie Denton and Haley and Jacob Martin.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Joyce Denton.
