Lenox puts three on POI first team

After a 22-6 season that ended in a 2-1 loss in the substate finals, Lenox was rewarded with three players being selected to the Pride of Iowa all-conference first team.

Junior Caleb Lange was a unanimous choice as a pitcher and was joined by teammates Dustin Gordon and Spencer Brown. Also making the first team was Nodaway Valley senior Trevor Jameson.

Lange had a breakout year for the Tigers, going 9-4 on the mound with a 1.02 earned run average in 82 2/3 innings pitched. He struck out 93 batters and walked just 34.

He was also a force at the plate, hitting .340 with 14 doubles, four home runs and a team-high 44 runs batted in.

Gordon, the senior catcher for the Tigers, led the team with a .462 batting average and an on base percentage of .690, which ranked third in Class 1A among players who had at least 60 at bats.

Gordon hit five doubles and one triple, while driving in 24 runs. He was 26-for-30 in stolen base attempts. Behind the plate, he had a fielding percentage of .977, committing just five errors in 218 chances.

Brown also made life difficult on opposing hitters, finishing with a record of 6-1 for the season and an ERA of 2.48 in 42 1/3 innings. He struck out 62 batters and walked 45, as opposing batters hit just .104 against him. Offensively, Brown drove in 32 runs.

For Nodaway Valley, Jameson hit a team-high .567 with an on-base percentage of .701, which ranked second in Class 1A among players who recorded at least 60 at bats.

Jameson hit nine doubles, two triples and four home runs, driving in 28 runs. He was 12-for-13 in stolen base attempts. Jameson pitched 17 innings, with an ERA of 3.71, striking out 27 and walking 18. Defensively, he had a fielding percentage of .907 for the season.

On the POI second team, Nodaway Valley had three representatives, followed by Mount Ayr with two and Southwest Valley, East Union and Lenox each had one representative.

Southwest Valley senior catcher Keegan Longabaugh and Lenox senior first baseman Todd Stoaks were both unanimous selections to the second team.

Nodaway Valley was represented on the second team by senior outfielder Baley Shantz, sophomore pitcher Jackson Lamb and junior pitcher Casey Ladd.

Representing Mount Ayr were senior infielder Weston Schnoor and senior pitcher Quency Vos.

East Union’s representative was junior infielder Cole Campbell.
