Robert Witt Macksburg

Robert Witt, 92, of Macksburg died Aug. 20, 2014, at Winterset Care Center South.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at the United Methodist Church in Macksburg. Burial will be in Moon Cemetery, rural Macksburg. A visitation will be 1 to 6  p.m. Sunday with family present 3 to 6 p.m. at Ochiltree Funeral Service, 1823 N. John Wayne Dr., Winterset. Memorials may be given to Macksburg United Methodist Church. Robert Witt, son of Carrie (Mayer) and Ora Witt, was born June 29, 1922, in Madison County.

Robert graduated from Macksburg High School in 1940.

On Oct. 24, 1952, Robert married Maxine Paxton in Winterset.

Robert operated a blacksmith shop in Macksburg for a number of years, but spent the bulk of his life farming.

Robert was a township trustee in Macksburg, and also was on the historical board, as well as a city council member. He was a member of Madison County Historical Society and Farm Bureau, and spent several years on the election board for Grand River Township in Madison County. He was a member of Madison County Pork Producers and Madison County Cattlemen’s Association. He served as Republican central committee chairman for Grand River Township.

Robert is survived by his sons, Richard (Betty) Witt of Blue Springs, Mo., and Robert (Mary Lou) Witt Jr. of Macksburg; grandchildren, Robert (Aurora) Witt III, Deidre (John) Bryan , Adam Witt, Julia (Eric) Green and David (Christina) Witt; and great-grandchildren, Lilian and Ayla Bryan, Jessica, Ellen and Richard Green, Justin Witt and Evan Witt.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife parents; and sisters, Myrtilla Baker and Helena Beatty.
