Democratic central committee hears from candidate representatives
Rob Hubler, Democratic candidate for U.S. House of Representatives spoke at the Union County Democratic Central Committee meeting held May 14 at the home of Joyce Reimer in Creston. Hubler served in Vietnam, was caretaker for this father and aunt, worked for Sen. Tom Harkin, and was a minister in Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska and California. Hubler’s Web site is: hublerForcongress5.xcox.net Joyce Schulte spoke on her trip to Washington, D.C. and speaking to representatives about educational needs of Iowa, homeland security and energy issues. Immediate issues are continued funding of Upward Bound and rising prices of gasoline for farmers. Seth Brooks, representative for Gov. Bill Richardson, candidate for president, spoke about Richardson’s experiences as United Nations Ambassador, secretary of energy and U.S. House of Representatives. Richardson is in his second term as New Mexico governor. Richardson recently made an appearance in Red Oak and Shenandoah. Richardson’s Web site is: www.richardsonforpresident.com Greg Neil, representative for Gov. Chris Dodd, talked about Dodd’s experience in the Peace Corps, military and as a U.S. senator. Neil also spoke about Dodd’s work to ensure every American has health care, plans for energy independence and fighting for the working families in America. Rory Steele, representative for Sen. Barrack Obama, spoke on Obama wanting to put America back on track and giving hope to the American people. Steele also spoke on Obama’s views on the environment, energy and health care for all Americans. Joe Smith, representative for Sen. John Edwards, spoke about Edwards’ health care and energy policies, and Rural Recovery Act — restoring economics fairness to rural America. Many rural areas are struggling and rural families earn 27 percent less than other families and 244 of the poorest 250 counties are rural. Edwards has outlined initiatives to restore economic fairness and create new jobs and businesses in rural America. A representative for the Edwards campaign made an appearance May 16 in Creston to answer questions and meet with the public. Questions were asked of all the representatives and a discussion was held on rural issues, health care, environment and energy policies. Some of the representatives will be setting up offices in Creston in the near future.
