Balanced scoring in SWCC rout

CNA photo by LARRY PETERSON Drawing a crowd: SouthwesternÕs Ryckey Harper (23) draws the defense and looks to pass to a teammate against William Penn JV Monday night. Harper had a team-high 23 points in the game, and came back with 13 points Thursday in a 102-57 win over the Graceland JV.

LAMONI — Graceland’s JV offered little resistance to Southwestern’s men’s team Thursday. The Spartans jumped out to a 15-2 lead, stretched it to 52-29 at halftime and sailed to a 102-57 victory. “We played hard for 40 minutes,” said coach Jerry Drymon. “We executed well. We shot 51 percent from the floor and outrebounded them 47-19. We dominated in all the categories that mattered.” Sophomore Anthony Davis of Clarinda led six Spartans in double figures with 16 points and nine rebounds. Kristian Williams, 6-2 freshman from Australia, had six assists. Freshman Tyler Raasch of Nodaway Valley had five steals, five assists, five rebounds and eight points. Southwestern has now scored 195 points against two JV squads to open the season, but the competition takes a step up on Saturday. “We travel to Southeast (Neb.) and they’re 2-1, with their only loss to Ellsworth out of our league,” Drymon said. Starting school on Aug. 23, or earlier, is a good idea.
I agree, it prevents school from lasting too far into June.
I disagree, it is too early, especially if it starts before the end of the Iowa State Fair.
School should be year-round
