CNA sports writer Kim Wolfer’s 30 points and a triple-double from Tiffany Troutwine helped the Southwestern women rally from a halftime deficit and blast past Graceland’s JV Wednesday night, 74-55. Wolfer averaged just 5.3 points per game last season while Troutwine scored 17, 10 points above last season’s average. Troutwine also had 17 steals and 11 assists. “Kim really played well — she kind of made that switch over to basketball right away from volleyball and Tiffany was all over the place on defense,” said Southwestern coach Buck Scheel. “I knew she was getting a lot of steals in the game, but I had to do a double-take when I saw that many steals.” In the first 10 minutes of Wednesday’s home-opener, the Spartans and Yellowjackets had six ties and a pair of lead changes. A Graceland 9-2 run was stopped by a Shelby Wright 3-pointer and after a Troutwine layin, the Yellowjackets went on a 9-0 run build a 38-30 lead. The Spartans got a pair of buckets late in the half to cut the halftime deficit to four and that kind of sparked the Spartans. A Troutwine steal and layin gave the Spartans a 44-43 lead in the second half, which was the first lead since the 17:52 mark of the first half. Troutwine’s bucket was a part of a 12-0 run that gave the Spartans a 50-43 lead and that momentum continued as Southwestern ended the game on a 14-2 run. Scheel saw two different teams against the Yellowjackets, with Southwestern outscoring Graceland 40-17 in the second half. “I could tell before the game that we looked a little sluggish and we went out and woke up a bit,” said Scheel. “It took about half of the first half. At halftime, we talked about what we needed to fix on offense and just went out in the second half and shot the ball well.” Southwestern (1-1 overall) hosts William Penn’s JV Friday at 7 p.m. The Spartans will continue to use a six-person rotation until Anna Waymaster and Christina Motley are back in the lineup. Waymaster (mono) and Motley (knee sprain) are out until after the Thanksgiving break. As protesters swarm the streets of Iran against the recent re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the level of United States involvement is being questioned. Where do we belong in this effort?
Stay out of it. It's none of our business.
Support the protesters.
Be on the side of the Ahmadinejad supporters.
I don't know anything about it.
