Southwestern’s two-game winning streak came to an end Monday night with a 77-70 loss to Simpson’s JV. Kim Wolfer led the Spartans with 19 points while Tiffany Troutwine added 16. CeCe Wright and Nicole Meyer were also in double-figures with 12 and 11 points each. “They (Simpson) shot the ball very well and I knew that coming in,” said Southwestern women’s basketball coach Buck Scheel. “They are basically made up of guards — very quick, athletic and smart players. They pressed the whole game, but I thought we handled the press pretty well considering we hadn’t worked on it much in practice.” Alicia Fisher led the Storm with 20 points, with three others collecting double-figures. Nodaway Valley native Jaclyn Westphal collected six points for Simpson JV. The Spartans were playing catch-up most of the game, trailing by as many as 10 points. Southwestern trailed 43-40 at halftime, but the Spartans had their chances. “We did get the ball inside quite a bit and we missed a lot of opportunities,” said Scheel. “We had our chances and we missed a lot of layups late when we were trying to put a run together.” Southwestern (2-2 overall) is back in action at Marshalltown, where the Spartans face Kishwaukee (Ill.) Friday at 2 p.m. and Saturday against Sauk Valley (Ill.) at 1 p.m. The Spartans will be back to full strength this weekend with guard Christina Motley back from injury, and Anna Waymaster made her first appeance of the season Monday after struggling with an illness. Starting school on Aug. 23, or earlier, is a good idea.
I agree, it prevents school from lasting too far into June.
I disagree, it is too early, especially if it starts before the end of the Iowa State Fair.
School should be year-round
